Sonrise Adult and Teen Challenge
Quick Facts
About This Facility
Adult & Teen Challenge was founded by David Wilkerson after his outreach to gang members in New York City revealed the central role substance use played in many life-controlling challenges. Today, Adult & Teen Challenge includes more than 215 residential centers across the United States and Canada, including Sonrise Adult & Teen Challenge. Established in 1988, Sonrise is located on an 80-acre campus at the base of the Wichita Mountains in Cache, Oklahoma.Faith-Based, Long-Term Residential CareSonrise Adult & Teen Challenge offers a long-term, faith-based residential program for adult men seeking freedom from addiction and other life-controlling issues. The Christ-centered program typically lasts 13 months or longer and follows a structured, 5-phase model. Participants engage in Christian discipleship through Bible study, prayer, sermons, spiritual retreats, work therapy, and life skills development, supported by staff with lived recovery experience.Campus Setting and Daily LivingThe campus provides a structured residential environment that supports recovery and personal growth. Accommodations include shared dorm-style rooms, communal dining and living areas, classrooms, and chapel space. Amenities include a recreation room, half basketball court, and a full gym. Clients may access an on-site store for snacks and personal items, and weekly group recreation encourages connection and healthy activity.Ongoing Support and Transitional OpportunitiesFollow-up care continues after program completion based on individual need, with no defined end date. If challenges arise, a 3–6-month restoration program may be offered or alternative care coordinated. Graduates may also apply for a 6- to 12-month internship, which supports gradual reintegration into the community through continued structure, accountability, and mentorship.
